Leicester and the surrounding area is undoubtedly a region of intense growth and development. It seems every other week a new project has begun, whether that’s redoing old streets and roads, building new homes and industrial buildings, or putting together plans for some of the most impressive technology parks the country has to offer! The area itself is an attractive proposition for both families and businesses, offering centralized location with access to all major cities with ease, and as a result a wealth of industry is growing there, as well as some beautiful rural outskirts that make for ideal places to bring up children. And speaking of children, it seems the latest development is set to benefit the kids of the area directly.

It seems as festival season fast approaches, the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) are rolling out the means to make sure it’s as ecological and recyclable as possible by the time it arrives! But how exactly will they manage this? The body have put into place a brand new strategy that aims to shrink the landfill output of this huge industry into a miniscule figure, saving money and the planet along the way! The strategy itself is being referred to as ‘Zero waste events: a 2020 vision’ , and after being launched last week on the 5^th of March, it’s already making headway to a brighter, cleaner tomorrow for the events industry!

Waste management has been the word on everybody’s lips so far in 2013, with many saying this is the year that could really make a difference to our overall sustainability if we all push to take that extra level of care in regards to all our waste produced, there’s no wonder the news has been alight with stories involving the industry! Nobody knows this better than the Chartered Institute of Waste Management or CIWM for short and as such, their latest endeavour involves rolling out a new short course for UK businesses, increasing awareness of waste management and improving the processes already in place.

It seems Peterborough, a town currently known for its vibrant music scene and resident RAF base, is turning up the environmental effort intensity to 11 in the coming months with its latest £75 million venture all signed and accounted for! But how exactly are they planning to spend this money and what’s so great about their plans? The Conservative led city council have come to an agreement wherein they’ll be building a huge, sprawling ‘energy from waste’ facility, zapping the region’s landfill figures by up to 94%! Which is pretty impressive news in our book.

A recent study has come back with results stating that the housing market is likely to pick up this year. As many people move at the start of a new year, upping sticks after a fresh start, it’s great news to hear that the housing market will be a raucous hive of activity once again when 2013 gets into full swing and from there on out! With comparatively low sales stretching back for some time now, right through the stormy economic weather and showing little signs of improvement throughout, analysts have finally said that even a slight reduction in inflation, coupled with economic growth, as has been predicted for 2013, could make a significant difference to the state of the housing market.

That’s right, if you thought it was just Debenhams and Currys that could have a post-Christmas, New Year January blow-out sale, then you’re wrong!
